Buying guides

Which fast charger should you choose for your phone?

A fast charger only saves time if it matches what your phone accepts. Before buying, check three points: power output, fast charging protocol, and the cable. This guide explains them simply, using the chargers available at Quixus.

1. Power: start with your phone

The phone determines the maximum charging power. A more powerful charger is not a problem for a compatible device, but it will not charge any faster beyond that limit. Therefore, look up your phone’s maximum charging power in its specifications sheet or manual, then choose a charger that is equal or slightly higher.

Power Examples at Quixus
10 W oraimo PowerMate 101
18 – 20 W Oraimo Cannon 18S (18 W), Oraimo PowerCube 20 (20 W PD), Oraimo PowerCube 201 (20 W, dual port), NIMO NG-A10, NIMO NG-A13 (GaN)
25 – 38 W Samsung 25 W, GK CH-013 25 W GaN, GK 30 W GaN, Xiaomi 33 W GaN, GK CH-014 35 W GaN, GK CH-011 38 W (dual port)
45 – 50 W Samsung 45 W with cable, Samsung 45 W, Winstar W-102 45 W, Samsung 50 W Duo
67 – 120 W Xiaomi 67 W, Xiaomi 120 W

2. The fast charging protocol

To charge quickly, the charger and phone must “speak” the same protocol:

  • USB Power Delivery (PD): the most widespread standard in USB-C, used by fast-charge-compatible iPhones and many Android smartphones. Examples: Oraimo PowerCube 20 (20 W PD), Oraimo PowerCube 201 (PD 3.0).
  • Samsung Super Fast Charging: fast charging for compatible Samsung phones. Samsung 25 W, 45 W, and 50 W Duo chargers are equipped with it; actual power depends on the phone model.
  • Xiaomi HyperCharge: the maximum powers of 67 W and 120 W on Xiaomi Combo chargers apply to phones compatible with this technology. With another phone, actual power depends on the protocols it accepts.
  • Quick Charge (QC 3.0): fast charging protocol supported by many Android phones. Examples: GK CH-012 (QC 18 W), Oraimo PowerCube 201 (QC 3.0).

3. The port and cable

Most recent phones charge via USB-C. Some blocks also offer a USB-A port (Xiaomi 67 W and 120 W, GK CH-213C) for your older cables. The cable matters just as much as the charger: a cable limited to 60 W will throttle a more powerful charger. The Samsung 45 W chargers (version with cable) and 50 W Duo come with a 1.8 m USB-C cable supporting 5 A.

4. Charging two devices at once

The Samsung 50 W Duo has two USB-C ports (up to 50 W on the main port, 25 W on the second). The Oraimo PowerCube 201 and the GK CH-011 38 W also have two ports. When two devices are plugged in, power is shared between the ports.

5. In the car

The NIMO NI-CR85 combines a USB-C port up to 65 W (Power Delivery) and a USB-A port up to 20 W (QC 3.0), totaling 85 W. Other models: GK CR-011 48 W with digital display, CIK CR-008 with dual ports, and the Banconley charger with built-in Type-C and iOS cables.

Frequently asked questions

Can a 120 W charger damage a phone that accepts 25 W?

With a compliant charger, the phone only receives the power it accepts. Charging will simply not be faster than with a charger suited to its limit.

Is the cable included?

This depends on the model: many of our chargers are sold with a cable (Oraimo, NIMO, Samsung 45 W with cable, Samsung 50 W Duo, Xiaomi Combo, GK 30 W…). Check the product sheet.

What does “GaN” mean?

GaN (gallium nitride) refers to components that make it possible to manufacture more compact chargers at equal power. Examples: Xiaomi 33, 67, and 120 W, GK 25, 30, and 35 W, NIMO NG-A13.
